How We Work

Hi there! It's nice to meet you. My name is Nelson and I am glad you have taken the time to visit with me today. If you are like many of the people I meet with each day, you are getting closer to retirement and the last thing you want to experience is a big loss in your portfolio because you do not have the time to recover what you once had.

Financial shocks come in many different forms and put you at risk of a delayed retirement or one that is different than you had hoped for you and your family.

If you have time today I suggest reading why helping families plan for retirement is important to me and how I work hard to let my foundation of faith be a guiding principle in all that I do for my clients. I have a robust library of financial articles, presentations, videos, and financial calculators available as both a free resource and a way to say thank you for your time. You will find them under the Resources tab.

If after spending time with me today you want to learn more about how to get started planning for a meaningful and successful retirement contact me and we will go to work on your future.

My Experience

I am a Certified Kingdom Advisor® and Certified Financial Planner® concentrating in retirement income planning. I have worked as a financial advisor in a variety of different roles within the financial services industry since 1990. Every past work experience has added to my level of knowledge which allows me to present comprehensive financial solutions.

Most of my experience has been helping families save and plan for a successful retirement.

I have concentrated my practice on working with families that are close to retirement because I know that is the time to get serious about putting in place an actual written plan. Having a plan can improve the probability of a successful retirement and help protect against big financial shocks.

If you know you have a good plan in place you gain increased confidence and enjoy your wealth.

A little about me...

I was born in Chicago but I have lived in a few different places in this world. They have all played a part in shaping who I am as a person. My wife, Tammy, and I have called Lemont, IL, home since 1999. I met Tammy at Eastern Illinois University (Go Panthers!) in 1984 and we were married in 1986 after we both graduated. We have 3 grown children and are blessed that they are all out on their own and doing well.

As you may have guessed by now, my faith in God and my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is an important part of who I am and what I hope to become. Tammy and I both grew up going to church on a fairly regular basis and when we started our family, taking our children to church to learn about God was important to us. It seemed like we were doing all the right things and I felt good about my relationship with God. Then in 2016 we received news that my oldest daughter was diagnosed with a critical illness. During the next eighteen months we had to draw close to God for strength and encouragement. It is in these difficult times you experience the love of God being poured into your life from family, friends, your church family, neighbors and through the talents of doctors and medical staff. Through God's grace, my daughter recovered and is doing well. That challenging time was a season of spiritual growth for me and our family and it has made me a better person and, I trust, a better Christian.

We have all experienced difficult times. That's just how life works. I am not a pastor but if someone needs encouragement and guidance that goes beyond financial planning I trust that God will use me and what I have learned to serve others.

In addition, I believe God has gifted me with an enthusiasm to serve others. I am privileged to work in a profession in which people are trusting me to help guide them toward a more safe and confident financial future. I want you to know I take that responsibility seriously and will always follow our industry's mandate that I act in your best interest.

I am proud to have served my country and the State of Illinois as a military veteran.

Upon graduation from Eastern Illinois University in 1985 I received my officers commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Air Defense Artillery branch. I rose to the rank of Captain and separated from service with an Honorable Discharge in 1990.

During that time I was stationed in both Fort Bliss, TX and in Germany. Two very different places.

I earned my Airborne wings by completing the US Army Airborne Training School

During my time in Germany I received the Army Achievement Medal and the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf cluster.

Cubs or Sox?

I am a Chicago White Sox fan!

I have watched a lot of Cubs baseball (don't tell my daughter) and I always pull for them to win - unless they are playing the White Sox!

The beauty of baseball is that hope springs eternal for each new upcoming season on both sides of town.
